The first of dozens of restaurants taken over after the iconic fast-food chain McDonald's pulled out of Russia has reopened in Moscow, under new ownership and a new name: Tasty and That's It.
Today the first rebranded restaurants are reopening in Moscow. There's a new name: "Vkusno i Tochka", which translates as "Tasty and that's it". Gone are the Golden Arches, replaced by a stylised letter M, made out of two French fries, and a dot (or, perhaps, a burger?) Gone are the Big Mac and McFlurry.
There are about 1,000 KFC restaurants in Russia. Almost all of them are managed by independent owners under licensing or franchise agreements.

That's because, despite the company's efforts, Burger King has not shut down its Russian operations with its franchisees.

KFC is the most prolific American fast food brand in Russia with over around 1,000 premises across the country. That is followed by McDonalds with close to 847, and Burger King, which operates roughly 800 restaurants in Russia. There are also 130 Starbucks coffee shops and 50 Pizza Hut restaurants in Russia.
The Big Four accounting firms — Deloitte, EY, KPMG and PwC — are pulling out of the country.
In a statement released Monday, Subway explained it “has no corporate operations in Russia” and its roughly 450 restaurants “are all independently owned and operated by local franchisees and managed by an independent master franchisee.”
Baskin-Robbins has a significant presence in Russia. According to its website, the multinational chain produces 16,500 tons of ice cream at its Moscow factory annually, making it one of the largest in Europe.
More than 30 years later, amid pressure from U.S. consumers to protest Russia's invasion of Ukraine, McDonald's last month announced it would be temporarily closing all 850 of its locations in Russia.
The major companies still doing business in Russia include Burger King, Domino's, Subway, Citi and Marriott, according to the Yale School of Management. Burger King, Subway and Domino's have hundreds of independent franchise locations inside Russia.

Are McDonald's still paying staff in Russia?
The burger giant said it will continue paying its 62,000 employees in Russia “who have poured their heart and soul into our McDonald's brand.” But in an open letter to employees, McDonald's President and CEO Chris Kempckinski said closing those stores for now is the right thing to do.
But the good thing about that is that the company continues to pay those employees as their country is invaded by Russia. McDonald's has also contributed millions of dollars into a fund that assists employees in their times of need.
